Like many of the children of my generation, I grew up loving the wonderful story of the von Trapps made popular through the film, The Sound of Music. Later, I studied more about the life of Captain von Trapp and was impressed by the principled heroism of this man. I think it is fair to say that the music and themes of family devotion and principled living communicated in the film touched the hearts of a generation. Even now, it continues to influence so many of our little ones.

Imagine the thrill I experienced when I met a grandson of Captain von Trapp, his wife, and their four very sweet (and highly musical) children, Sofia, Melanie, Amanda, and Justin. Now home educators with an evangelical vision for raising godly children, this precious branch of the von Trapp family dynasty touched my heart with their humility and the simple purity of their vision for family, home, and Jesus Christ. That day we were treated to a surprise which brought tears to my eyes, as I watched the four von Trapp children carrying on the legacy of the past as they sang Christian hymns and favorite songs from The Sound of Music.
